Security forces of Nigeria state security fired live rounds at protesters in the capital, Abuja, demanding the release of activist Omoyele Sowore who is detained.
The founder of the website Sahara Reporters, has been held in prison for close to four months, following accusations of treason and comments made about the president.
Although Mr Sowore has already been granted bail by the court, he continues to be held by the secret police in defiance of the court order.
There were no fatalities among the people at Tuesday’s demonstration but a journalist from Nigeria’s Guardian newspaper was assaulted by state security operatives.
